Our Story
After completing a four-year degree in accounting from Texas A&M University, a year at Ernst & Young, and working 16 years as a Texas Comptroller Tax Auditor specializing in Sales and Use tax, Mixed Beverage tax and Motor Vehicle Seller-Financed tax, Dino Marcaccio started Texas Tax Group to help businesses complete their state tax audits quickly and fairly. Why Is It Important to Hire Former Auditors from the State Comptroller’s Office?
All auditors must have a four-year degree in accounting from an accredited university to work for the Texas Comptroller’s Office due to the required amount of accounting. Then, auditors receive over 300 hours of intensive training during their first six months of employment. They then receive approximately 75 hours of additional training each year.
Between this training and completing 25 to 30 sales tax audits yearly, state auditors receive almost 2,000 hours each year in agency training and field audit experience. There is absolutely no substitute for working as an auditor. Our team members completed approximately 5,000 sales tax audits and worked at the Texas Comptroller’s Office for a combined total of over 350 years. You will not find a more experienced group of tax specialists anywhere.
Our Facilities
Texas Tax Group maintains secure and fully functional offices in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. Visit our contact page for specific addresses and contact information for each location.
Each office has a secure client record storage area, consultant’s offices, and auditor hosting stations. Our ex-auditor consultants conduct pre-audits and host state auditors in our offices under their direct supervision.
Why Are Our Facilities Important?
Texas Tax Group takes great care to keep your records secure by hosting them in our office. Your records only leave our consulting offices if certain approved activities need to take place at your location. We host any audits in our offices in designated audit spaces. You are not required to surrender your records to be taken off-site by an auditor. Our specialists closely supervise the entire process and ensure the safety of your business records.
Since most auditors have 20 to 25 active audits in progress, the consultant must keep the audit moving. In addition, the consultant should also be the ‘gatekeeper’ and provide, after the pre-audit phase, only those client records that are relevant to the audit process. Although the consultant may not withhold documents from the auditor, it is our job to initially review them and be sure that the auditor understands the content of the records presented.
